As someone who struggled for years with writing anxiety, I am passionate about helping writers gain confidence in their craft. I have two primary goals when working with writers:
1) To facilitate joy in the writing and revision process, and
2) To provide writers with tools they can carry with them into future writing projects.
Thus, my feedback will always emphasize what your piece is doing well. Additionally, my suggestions for improvement will always be accompanied with clear explanations (i.e. the “why” behind my thoughts). I include these explanations so that you’ll know how to apply my feedback on your current project to your future projects as well. My ultimate goal as an editor is to help you feel more confident in your own writing and revising skills.

Fiction Editing
What’s Included:
Depending on the length of your piece, I’ll provide a 1 to 2-page editorial letter with “big-picture” feedback on plot, structure, characters, voice, POV, sense of place, theme(s), tension, etc. In my marginal comments, I’ll highlight portions of text that are working well in addition to those that could use improvement. I’ll also make suggestions about improving paragraph construction and/or tightening up prose.

Fiction or Creative Nonfiction Proofreading
What’s Included:
Using the “track changes” feature, I’ll correct grammar and punctuation errors throughout your piece. I may also make minor suggestions about syntax and word choice. Choose this service if you’re already confident in your piece and just looking for a quick polish before submitting to publications.

Academic Editing
What’s Included:
Depending on the length of your project, I’ll provide a 1 to 2-page editorial letter with “big-picture” feedback on organization, thesis development, strength of argument(s), use of outside sources, paragraph structure, etc. I’ll use marginal comments to further illustrate my “big-picture” suggestions and to offer suggestions for improved clarity at the sentence level.
